The first Rosie website was conceived and started by Steve Graham back in the 1990s and ran until 2002. Bob Dorais (Webmaster for the Coral Sea CV-43 website) started a replacement site in 2006 to fill the void. I started this FDR site in Jan. 2009 as an offshoot of my USNAVYPHOTOS.COM website. Bob already had his hands full running several other websites at that point and after this site became established he and I agreed to merge the two sites and I agreed to do the work. As a result you now have the content from both sites right here.
After the ship’s reunion in May ‘08 we started a project to preserve those movies many of us took while aboard the FDR. The film is getting old now and won’t be playable much longer. If you have any film that you would be willing to share with your shipmates please contact me at larryb442@verizon.net and we will (at no cost to you) have it converted to digital format, give you a DVD Video copy of your film and add the video to the collection shown at the Annual Reunion. You will also get a free copy of the final Video that includes your film. Revenue from the sale of the Cruise DVDs helps pay for the expense of the digital conversions and is also shared with the USS FDR Reunion. The generosity of many shipmates has allowed me to produce 4 Cruise Video DVDs to date and additional commitments of film are helping to complete more videos. Please look at the “Videos” page to check current status and film needs.
NOTE: I am currently trying to complete the 1959 and 1960 cruise videos and am having a terrible time finding enough film to do the job. If YOU know of some film taken aboard the FDR during those years PLEASE let me know.
