Exercise “Main Brace”

“Main Brace” was the first major NATO naval exercise with Denmark. It was planned by Gen. Eisenhower and was to show Denmark and Norway that could be defended against a Soviet attack. On the last day of the exercise 26 Sept. 1952 crash landed one Skyraider from the aircraft carrier USS “Franklin D. Roosevelt” by Børsmose near Varde. It was salvaged and towed all the way to the base to Karup, over 100 km, and repaired in Hangar 3)
