There is software on board that makes it unreadable to the “bots” who collect that sort of stuff.
All entries must be approved before they will appear in the book. Any inappropriate entries, as well as those with invalid email addresses, will be deleted and will not appear. I check daily so don’t despair if your entry doesn’t appear immediately.
Due to a rash of automated spam messages we now use “captcha” authentication. Just enter the “captcha” code and then SUBMIT. Don’t worry about upper or lower case….either will work. If you have trouble reading it just click the little button to the right and it will “refresh”. Thanks!
Many shipmates have told me, via email, about having visited this site. Oddly many have not left entries here for their shipmates to see. THEY do wonder how you are and probably would love to hear from you. This is a great way get back in contact.

I am looking for information and pictures from the 1964 FDR Softball team, European Champs.
I served for one shakedown and one cruise to the Med from January 1971 to the 1st of JUly 1971. Was in VA-87 and we flew the A-7 Corsair II. Enlisted man and i did work on the roof.
To my shipmates I have enclosed a pictorial of the Rosie I took of her before she was scrapped in New Jersey. This will give you a vivid memory and remembrance of her before she left this earth and high seas of our Naval life serving on her deck and living a great experience in our lives:

It was part of my youth that was very important being a part of the US Navy, the Rosie and serving our country -1961 to 1964 … then having a son who served in the Navy for 10 years from 1998 to 2008 and also serving with my brother from 1962- 1963 on the Rosie. Two generations of Navy service. My best to all.

I was a FN in the #1 and #3 engine rooms from July 72 to Sept. 74 I would like to hear from anyone during this time.
Fresh out of AT ‘A’ school I reported to VA-15 aboard the Roosevelt Sept 1972 in Barcelona. For the remainder of the 72 cruise I worked the ship laundry for a short time. Then stocked ship stores. 1973 – 1975 cruises I was attached to the IM3 division from VA-15. To repair the A7 ARN-52 tacan. Was discharged in Aug 1975. My Dad was aboard the USS FDR I believe from 1967-1970, his name was James A. Wilson. I’m so happy to see this page, when he was alive every year he would pull out the films he had made while he was on the ship. We have great memories of his time of service.

Served in Marine Detachment from Oct 73-May 75. Remember the 73 days on the water during the Israeli flair up in 1973, and coming home in the Hurricane. Rosie got pretty beat up and some casualties (at least one that i can recall). Semper Fi to all my shipmates.

I was an RM3 in Flag Staff Communications. I delivered the Top Secret Message Board to the Rear Admiral Clifford and handled flash and immediate messages. I was in First-Class Berthing. I was on CV 42 for its last Mediterranean Cruise and aboard when we ran into a Liberian Tanker in serious fog in the Straights of Messing. Spent time in dry
docks in Naples.

I was a Yeoman third class (YN3) with VF-84 during the 1975 med cruise. After leaving active duty in 1977, I joined the reserves and retired in 2009.
Am presently 90 years of age. I was aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt when it made it’s shakedown cruise to Guantanamo, Cuba. If my memory is correct, we lost 12 planes and 9 men during this period in it’s history. We also made the trip to Rio de Janiero for President Dutra’s inauguration. I became a Shellback on this cruise. My rate was Musician 3rd Class.
It doesn’t seem that long ago, but I have good memories of this period of my life. I don’t imagine many of that crew are still living.
I was ship’s company and served with V-2 Catapults from February 1976 to July 1977, and made the final Med Cruse from October 1976 to April 1977. craignyreen@msn.com
