From an FDR friend in South Africa who visited the ship in Capetown, February 1967.
I enclose a few I took on my visit to your great ship on her visit to Cape Town. I was 23 at the time, and having just completed my military training, was very interested to hear first hand from the guys what it was like in Nam. Got talking to some sailors who took me down to their quarters, and gave me a unauthorised tour. What a great hour I spent there with the guys.I suppose we all being the same age greatly contributed. Must say we mostly chatted about girls! Pity about the politics spoiling their visit…….I had great places to show them.
