I have managed to resurrect some of the Guest Books from the previous FDR Websites. There are some that are lost forever but this is the best there is at the moment. There is a lot of good stuff there.

All entries must be approved before they will appear in the book. Any inappropriate entries, as well as those with invalid email addresses, will be deleted and will not appear. I check daily so don’t despair if your entry doesn’t appear immediately.
Due to a rash of automated spam messages we now use “captcha” authentication. Just enter the “captcha” code and then SUBMIT. Don’t worry about upper or lower case….either will work. If you have trouble reading it just click the little button to the right and it will “refresh”. Thanks!
Many shipmates have told me, via email, about having visited this site. Oddly many have not left entries here for their shipmates to see. THEY do wonder how you are and probably would love to hear from you. This is a great way get back in contact.

Hello everyone,
My Mom, Beverly, lost her brother LTJG Joseph F Janiak Jr. in March of 63 after some type of cat failure aboard the USS Roosevelt CV-42 Med Cruise of 62-63.
Looking for more information about him to honor his memory as he was lost a few years before I was born. My mom was only 16 when she lost her brother.

Hello, I am here on behave of my father ( W J Westerberg- adj2 – VFP62- – 1962 – 1966
He is not what you might call internet savvy- I have been introducing him slowly- but I don’t think he will change his spots anytime before he is not here any longer – but I am looking for some folks that may have been in jet maintenance – same credits – same time frames – he is 80 ish – any advice- any people that may have things to talk to him about please reach out to me : robinw08@msn.com
I was onboard March 1965 until January 3, 1967 when I flew to SF for separation from active duty (USNR). It was my 21st birthday which I celebrated twice flying over the International Dateline. When I signed into my reserve unit in Parkersburg, WVa, I “sewed” on FTG2.
From there, I started my undergraduate degree at Marshall University where I was a graduating senior when we lost the football team in a plane crash (re: We Are Marshall movie). Subsequent law degree in 1985 at American College of Law in Brea, CA.
Thanks to our time on station in Vietnam, I now have lung cancer. Thanks to Agent Orange. Oh, I haven’t smoked anything in over 45 years. Currently, I have applied to the VA for this issue.

Went aboard her right out of boot camp, in July ’52. A week later left for a Med cruise. I was a DC sticker in “R” Div. I stayed aboard her until ’54, right after the damaged bow in the Arctic Circle. Decided to stay on the East coast instead of going to Bremerton for repairs. as I was transferred to the USS Currituck AV-7.
Retired as a BUC in the Seabees in 1971.

DAVID M. TALLMAN, I’m glad you posted about the hurricane DONNA. I couldn’t remember the name but I too rode out the storm. I was in FOX DIV. FT-2 from Oct 58 to Mar 61. This is the storm that hit Fla soon after we had returned from Med Cruise. We had to pull back to sea because we couldn’t stay in port. Do you remember when we dry docked in Brooklyn yards to undergo repairs and somehow one of the screws caught a buoy. I remember seeing it laying against one of the screws with chain wrapped around shaft. I think it was 1959 or 60. Wish to hell I’d taken a picture.

I was in the ABF div 1964-Dec 1966. I saw several MED cruises & spent my last year onboard in Viet Nam. I remember being on a MED cruise when we got RAMMED in bow by a French freighter.

OA Division 63′ to 65′ – Served aboard when they filmed the movie “Flight Deck” 1964. Some footage shot from our balloon launching platform aft under the fight deck. Also remember breaking a blade off the #1 screw going through the Straits of Mesina and limping back across the North Atlantic in November, encountering 45′ seas on the way. All weather decks were secured, and the only ones allowed out were the weather observers wearing Mae west and secured with a rope to the hatch on the island structure. Waves were breaking on the flight deck. Sure glad we had the hurricane bow. That was some ride.

I was an AO2 with VA-72 aboard the Rosie for the Viet Nam cruise 1966 to 1967. I am interested in knowing if anyone has filed a Viet Nam Blue Water Navy Claim. My claim was denied because the VA could not confirm if the Rosie was within the territorial waters (within 12 miles of Viet Nam). I am looking for some sort of proof to show the VA. Pictures of the coast line taken from the ship would be one way. Any help is appreciated.
