HAVE YOU CHECKED THE HOME PAGE FOR THE LATEST INFO?
I have managed to resurrect some of the Guest Books from the previous FDR Websites. There are some that are lost forever but this is the best there is at the moment. There is a lot of good stuff there.

SO
Please put your email address in your message so your shipmates can get back to you (if they can remember you).
There is software on board that makes it unreadable to the “bots” who collect that sort of stuff.
All entries must be approved before they will appear in the book. Any inappropriate entries, as well as those with invalid email addresses, will be deleted and will not appear. I check daily so don’t despair if your entry doesn’t appear immediately.
Due to a rash of automated spam messages we now use “captcha” authentication. Just enter the “captcha” code and then SUBMIT. Don’t worry about upper or lower case….either will work. If you have trouble reading it just click the little button to the right and it will “refresh”. Thanks!
Many shipmates have told me, via email, about having visited this site. Oddly many have not left entries here for their shipmates to see. THEY do wonder how you are and probably would love to hear from you. This is a great way get back in contact.
REMEMBER….THE ONLY WAY FOR YOUR SHIPMATES TO GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU IS HAVING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN YOUR MESSAGE
For YOUR protection – No home phone numbers or addresses please. Please save that for when you make email contact.

Update to previous post:
Freddie Albert Nitkeiwicz was an MM3 in engineering department M division. He was onboard for the 1961 med cruise and I found his photo with his division in the cruise book! Supposedly he was in the skin diving club on board and his dive buddy, Micheal Joseph Noland, whom also perished with him that day was in E division. Would absolutely love to hear from any shipmates who knew him or obtain any additional photos.

I am searching for anyone who may have known my uncle MM3 Freddie Albert Nitkiewicz onboard in 1961. I believe he worked in the maintenance department. Him and some shipmates went swimming at Little River Spring in FL on 23 Sep 1961 and him and one of his shipmates drown during the trip. I would love to hear from someone who knew him, was there or if anyone knows how I could find a photo of him.

GUIDED MISSILE SHOP 57 -60
Made 2 Med cruises while aboard
Had problems with Seymore
Have been in contact with John Darmer, Peter Rogala, and Tom Whitfield so far.
Darmer made a career of the Navy, said he had never seen anyone from the FDR missile shop again. He said that he had heard that Lindstrom had also made it a career. Darmer passed away some years ago – from Athens, Alabama.

In Loving Memory – Benno Foehner, Jr., age 95. Served on the USS FDR 1944-1946 Plank owner. Serviced all the fighter planes. Ben passed on Sunday, October 24, 2021 peacefully at home in Phoenix, Arizona. If anyone is interested….I have photos of the carrier that were taken by Ben. I can make copies. Also…I have very large photo of Ben and all of his shipmates dated June 22, 1944 that I can make copies of. Also…we have his handwritten journal/book that includes all of his information on all the fighter planes that he serviced while serving on the carrier. I plan to have all the pages laminated as they are becoming very fragile. Ben’s kindness and generosity will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
