HAVE YOU CHECKED THE HOME PAGE FOR THE LATEST INFO?
I have managed to resurrect some of the Guest Books from the previous FDR Websites. There are some that are lost forever but this is the best there is at the moment. There is a lot of good stuff there.

SO
Please put your email address in your message so your shipmates can get back to you (if they can remember you).
There is software on board that makes it unreadable to the “bots” who collect that sort of stuff.
All entries must be approved before they will appear in the book. Any inappropriate entries, as well as those with invalid email addresses, will be deleted and will not appear. I check daily so don’t despair if your entry doesn’t appear immediately.
Due to a rash of automated spam messages we now use “captcha” authentication. Just enter the “captcha” code and then SUBMIT. Don’t worry about upper or lower case….either will work. If you have trouble reading it just click the little button to the right and it will “refresh”. Thanks!
Many shipmates have told me, via email, about having visited this site. Oddly many have not left entries here for their shipmates to see. THEY do wonder how you are and probably would love to hear from you. This is a great way get back in contact.
REMEMBER….THE ONLY WAY FOR YOUR SHIPMATES TO GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU IS HAVING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN YOUR MESSAGE
For YOUR protection – No home phone numbers or addresses please. Please save that for when you make email contact.
My dad George Perry passed away in January. He served aboard the Roosevelt for the ’57-’58 Med tour. He apparently joined the ship while it was in the Med after he had washed out of flight training. He had gotten as far as PIC in T-28 at Whiting. He was always super disappointed he didn’t make it all the way through to Naval Aviator. He was never quite clear about what he did on the Roosevelt. Saying both air traffic control and managing the planes between the hangar and the deck. Just thought I’d say Hi for him. Tom

Hi,
Great organization. My father, Roy Belcher, Jr. was the XO on the Med Cruise of 1960. Lots of good memories of those times and the stories of that cruise.
Thanks

I served as a Shift Supervisor in the Rapcon and Control Tower at Lajes Field Azores in 1964-5 as a 2lt USAF, when at 6am we received 26 aircraft of the carrier in IFR conditions. We managed to land all of them. All were emergency fuel.

While watching the USNS Comfort cruise into NY Harbor , it reminded me of our berth in Mayport.. Passing the USNS Santuary (now retired) every day reminded me that while we were ready to fight a war we were also ready to give assistance to others in times of need. Served from Nov 72 to Feb 76 I made two Med deployments. I was a DP3 in S7 division. In 74 I received the Sixth Fleet Sailor of the Month award. I’m currently not home and waiting out this war on the virus in Florida. I do have things to share doing my life on board. I also have a friend that makes replica 3ft long ships out of wood and I have one of the Rosie I would like to donate if anyone knows of a naval museum that might like it . Hope all my old shipmates make it through this awful time we are going through. God Bless !

Arrived on the Rosie around Aug 1959 as a RMSN and was promoted to RM3 shortly after arrival and stayed until about Oct 1961 having been transferred to the Precommissioning School in Norfolk. Spent most of my time in Main Comm. My next assignment was the USS Kennebec AO36 one of President Kennedy’s less than stellar moments. This rust bucket was a civilian tanker prior to WWII and then served until after the war and was mothballed. The taste of cosmolene stayed with us for at least a year when I was released from active duty for college. Oh how I wished to be back on the Rosie.

My name is Joseph Watson. I served in the 4th Division on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1971-1974. I have been diagnosed with a lot of the symptoms associated with Agent Orange and have applied for VA benefits. Has anyone heard or know of anyone who has applied for VA Benefits due to Agent Orange who were on the “Rosie” during the time frame I was on the ship? Do you know if the ship was ever decontaminated after it’s deployment to Vietnam? I appreciate any help you can give me.

My dad, James Metzger from Brookfield, IL served on the FDR ‘57-59. I’m just wondering if there are any of his shipmates out here. He was flight deck crew (green shirts). He unfortunately passed away 15 years ago. I do have all his old pictures so i’ll Have to scan some and post them. He always loved his time in the Navy.

Had a reunion with Gordon Jameson, Don Bradshaw, Jack Lancaster, and Dale Buckendahl and wives several years ago. Hi everyone, my father served on the FDR 1967-70. He spoke so fondly and happily about his time aboard the ship and the good men he was buddies with. He passed away in 2007 and I am now looking to learn more information about him and his time in the Navy. He was a boatswain’s mate and a coxswain. I believe he was in the gunnery dept. and possibly the 4th division. I would love to hear from anyone that may know him or about his positions aboard the ship during that time he was there. my email is wade.dendy6@gmail.com
I look forward to hearing from some of you. GO NAVY!!
Good Morning,
I was going through some things yesterday (Veterans Day) and came upon “The Last Cruise of the Rosie” 1977!! Sorry to say my children are not interested in what this Old Sailor did back then, I don’t want to throw it away but I am moving and can not take it with me. Is there a place that collects things form a “Salty Dogs” Past?? If so I will send every thing I have from those days! Thanks for listening

I served as an AE3 in AMD from September 1972 until August 1973 In Mayport Fl. We only went on short stints for pilot training but no Med cruise.
Served with some great guys but I left the Navy to return to college at Western Kentucky. I wonder if Mike Powell has registered on this site.
