HAVE YOU CHECKED THE HOME PAGE FOR THE LATEST INFO?

I have managed to resurrect some of the Guest Books from the previous FDR Websites. There are some that are lost forever but this is the best there is at the moment. There is a lot of good stuff there.

Click on the year you want to view. Click on the left arrow at the top of your browser to return to this page.

SO

Please put your email address in your message so your shipmates can get back to you (if they can remember you).

There is software on board that makes it unreadable to the “bots” who collect that sort of stuff.

All entries must be approved before they will appear in the book. Any inappropriate entries, as well as those with invalid email addresses, will be deleted and will not appear. I check daily so don’t despair if your entry doesn’t appear immediately.

Due to a rash of automated spam messages we now use “captcha” authentication.  Just enter the “captcha” code and then SUBMIT. Don’t worry about upper or lower case….either will work. If you have trouble reading it just click the little button to the right and it will “refresh”. Thanks!

Many shipmates have told me, via email, about having visited this site. Oddly many have not left entries here for their shipmates to see. THEY do wonder how you are and probably would love to hear from you. This is a great way get back in contact.

REMEMBER….THE ONLY  WAY FOR YOUR SHIPMATES TO GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU IS HAVING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN YOUR MESSAGE

For YOUR protection – No home phone numbers or addresses please. Please save that for when you make email contact.

REMEMBER….IF YOU WANT TO BE CONTACTED MAKE SURE YOU PUT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN THE BODY OF YOUR MESSAGE

  1. 1956 was one of reservists ordered onboard Rosie after she was modified. We were initiated on the equator and then cruised around the horn to Rio and Mayport. We received a “Horned Shellback” card. Today 2019 it seems to be a rare card name.

  3. Hello. I’m writing on behalf of my dad, Lt. Col. Ed Gund (USAF). Dad was an exchange pilot from 1959-1961. He flew A4’s with VA-46 and was on the 1960 cruise. Dad was very proud of being one of the very first Air Force pilots to be carrier qualified. Upon his return to AF duty, he flew F-86’s, O-1’s (Vietnam) and the F-104. Dad was very proud of his time as a “Nasal Radiator.” He is currently residing in Goodyear, AZ.

Aboard as Ships company from 1971 to 1973 in V-2 Div. as LPO, TD-1 in VLA or Plat lens Dept. One of the few TD rate that served aboard a ship. A part of my life that I truly cherish. DavorJo@bellsouth.net

  5. Hello! My father Peter H. Jenkins served as a photographer on CV-42 in 1964 and 1965. He lost his treasured cruise books many years ago. We (his children & wife) are looking to purchase original cruise books, if possible. I see that there’s at least two 1964 books on ebay currently.

Where can I find a 1965 book for purchase?

Thank you all for your service!

I was on the Rosie from 1958-1961. Was a great ship. I still have fond memories of all the men in my div. I was a baker at the time and myself and 3 others baked all the bread in the forward bake shop. Those were the days of NO air conditioning . 24 ovens in the shop and it was hot as hell. I weighed a whole 125 pounds at that time. Lots of good and so called bad times.

  10. Hello everyone,
My Mom, Beverly, lost her brother LTJG Joseph F Janiak Jr. in March of 63 after some type of cat failure aboard the USS Roosevelt CV-42 Med Cruise of 62-63.
Looking for more information about him to honor his memory as he was lost a few years before I was born. My mom was only 16 when she lost her brother.
Thanks for your service and sacrifice.

Hello Gang, I thought I would repost my entry on the FDR site and explain that the “Roster” had my name spelled wrong for 1965-66. Under OI-Div

It has it as “Slymanski” and “Szmanski” another year. But my real name is spelled John Szymanski and after I got out to the Navy, I started going by Mike Szymanski
