HAVE YOU CHECKED THE HOME PAGE FOR THE LATEST INFO?

I have managed to resurrect some of the Guest Books from the previous FDR Websites. There are some that are lost forever but this is the best there is at the moment. There is a lot of good stuff there.

Click on the year you want to view. Click on the left arrow at the top of your browser to return to this page.

SO

Please put your email address in your message so your shipmates can get back to you (if they can remember you).

There is software on board that makes it unreadable to the “bots” who collect that sort of stuff.

All entries must be approved before they will appear in the book. Any inappropriate entries, as well as those with invalid email addresses, will be deleted and will not appear. I check daily so don’t despair if your entry doesn’t appear immediately.

Due to a rash of automated spam messages we now use “captcha” authentication.  Just enter the “captcha” code and then SUBMIT. Don’t worry about upper or lower case….either will work. If you have trouble reading it just click the little button to the right and it will “refresh”. Thanks!

Many shipmates have told me, via email, about having visited this site. Oddly many have not left entries here for their shipmates to see. THEY do wonder how you are and probably would love to hear from you. This is a great way get back in contact.

REMEMBER….THE ONLY  WAY FOR YOUR SHIPMATES TO GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU IS HAVING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN YOUR MESSAGE

For YOUR protection – No home phone numbers or addresses please. Please save that for when you make email contact.

REMEMBER….IF YOU WANT TO BE CONTACTED MAKE SURE YOU PUT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN THE BODY OF YOUR MESSAGE

  1. My name is Stan meissner and my email address is mndirt@hotmail.com I served on the port cat crew during the 1972 Med cruise along with Phil Dyer, another contributor to this website. My duties included operating the JBD’s and port deck edge. I live in Forest Lake, Minnesota, am still married to Debbie, have four adult children and three grandchildren. I still like to recapture some of the adrenaline rush and excitement of my flight deck days as an auto racing photographer and writer covering dirt track racing with the emphasis on Sprint Cars. I guess you could say once an adrenaline junkie, always an adrenaline junkie.

  2. Served onboard Rosie from Sept 1976 till May 1977. I was part of her crew for her last Med cruse as a Radioman 3rd Class Petty Officer. The picture of the Harrier hovering over flight deck brought back memories of the whole cruse. In the meny moves sense leaving her i lots all my pictures…but i did manage to hang onto the ships patches. She was a great ship.

  3. Served on board from October 1971 to May of 1975. V-4 Division, Worked the filter rooms as well as the pump rooms, most of my time was in Repair 7, roaming the flight deck and making repairs to the fueling equipment, hoses and pumps, and defueling air craft that needed repairs. After more then thirty years I still miss Rosie. Alot of great memories.

  4. Served onboard the “Rossie” from Feb 69 to Feb 72. Assigned to Engineering Department, A-7 Gang ( Liquid Oxygen/Nitrogen shop on hanger deck). Great times onboard and ashore in foreign ports. Would like to hear from anyone from “A” Division.

  5. I served on the Roosevelt from October, 1963, until January 1965. I was the landing signal talker in the V-1 division. I would very much like to contact Rick Renner to discuss his photos. I have been trying to find a large print of thre Roosevelt that I may Frame. Rick has some very nice shots of her, that I would be willing to pay for.

I was station on the Rosie from 1973-1975.I hated to see the last photo of the Rosie. She never got the respect she deserved. She covered a lot of the ” supercarriers” butts when she was steaming.

  8. I”m PN3 Landrum. I served with VA-15 & VA-175 during 1972 & 1973 onbd the Rosy. I’m searching for members of my squadrons and Bob Diliburto who worked for Disbursing in Ship’s Company.

  9. I had the pleasure of serving on the last Med cruise 76-77 in A division (chilly willy) AC/R shop as a 17 year old -rebel without a clue- Hard to believe 30+ years has passed.
Now we understand the look in the old sailors eyes

Rosie went on another Carriibean cruse in April 1966 and in May 1966 went on a 10 month cruise to the S China Sea off the coast of Viet Nam. Served as Exec’s orderly for Capt. Freese and Com. Shultz.

  12. Charles R. Campbell III

  13. Just got on this site. Brings back memories as I was on the Rosie 67-68. would like to get copy of cruise book as all my stuff burned in house fire. I was hanger deck aircraft handler.

  14. Hello! I am looking for people who may have served with my uncle, Charley Inmon. He was a cook. He was aboard the FDR in 1954 when it sailed across the equator and down to Brazil and around South America. He passed away in 1956 shortly after getting out of the Navy. Any and all help will be appreciated. He also served aboard the Coral Sea during the time, too. You can contact me at twinsmom1@sbcglobal.net. Thank you and I hope to hear from some of his old shipmates.

  15. I was onboard with Squadron VF-41, the Black Aces, as an AT2 on the 1970 cruise to the Med. One of our planes bumped into a Russian Badger, so we got a visit from one of their helicopter carriers the next day. We all waved, sometimes with all fingers extended. There was also a shakedown to the Carribean and a cruise to nowhere for a few days, some sort of readiness exercise, I guess, both before the Med cruise. For around half of the Med cruise I was attached to the FDR electronics depot maintenance department, working nights. Had a fine relationship with the McDonald Douglas Tech Rep (I can’t remember his name, though). Good times!

I would certainly like to hear from my old (former, but none of us are young any more) shipmates.

  16. Bobby L. Yarbrough

Served aboard F.D.R. 1957-58 Med Cruise, dry dock Brooklin Navy ship yards.Shake down
Caribbean.Ships company, parachute rigger, living in parachute loft. Many good memories. If any of my shipmates around I would like to hear from you.

  17. Lisa Pettinicchi

My dad, John “Willy” Demunda, served on the FDR beginning in 45. He was on board when it was commissioned in NY harbor and I still have the photos. Apparently he was friends with the photographer and as a result, I have many nice shots of that day, including the ceremony and pictures of President Truman.
Just wondering if anyone remembers my father, if so, please contact me.
