HAVE YOU CHECKED THE HOME PAGE FOR THE LATEST INFO?

I have managed to resurrect some of the Guest Books from the previous FDR Websites. There are some that are lost forever but this is the best there is at the moment. There is a lot of good stuff there.

Click on the year you want to view. Click on the left arrow at the top of your browser to return to this page.

SO

Please put your email address in your message so your shipmates can get back to you (if they can remember you).

There is software on board that makes it unreadable to the “bots” who collect that sort of stuff.

All entries must be approved before they will appear in the book. Any inappropriate entries, as well as those with invalid email addresses, will be deleted and will not appear. I check daily so don’t despair if your entry doesn’t appear immediately.

Due to a rash of automated spam messages we now use “captcha” authentication.  Just enter the “captcha” code and then SUBMIT. Don’t worry about upper or lower case….either will work. If you have trouble reading it just click the little button to the right and it will “refresh”. Thanks!

Many shipmates have told me, via email, about having visited this site. Oddly many have not left entries here for their shipmates to see. THEY do wonder how you are and probably would love to hear from you. This is a great way get back in contact.

REMEMBER….THE ONLY  WAY FOR YOUR SHIPMATES TO GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU IS HAVING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN YOUR MESSAGE

For YOUR protection – No home phone numbers or addresses please. Please save that for when you make email contact.

REMEMBER….IF YOU WANT TO BE CONTACTED MAKE SURE YOU PUT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN THE BODY OF YOUR MESSAGE

  1. Any one remember the details of Operation Snowy Beach which I believe took place January of 1972. We were supposed to support the Marines with an exercise on a beach in Maine. I remember the Maine governor was opposed for some reason and the mission was scrapped. However the Roosevelt continued to sail on up north. How far and where is what I would like to find out. We returned to Mayport at the end of the month before the long Med cruise started in Feb. Thanks. rcadude@yahoo.com

Greetings to all Rosie shipmates & veterans! Thank you for your service to our country!!

I’m interested in finding any contact info on the folks who worked in the CR Division (Communications Radio) during the 1972 cruise. A few names that come to mind are CWO2 Wetmore, Pat Courtney, Don Novak, Jeff Brezius, Mike DeFranco, etc.

Any/all info will be greatly appreciated!

  20. Aircrewman with VAH II on the A3D. We hit the rounddown one night May 7 1961. We lost all hydraulics,no tail bumper, no tail hook. Came within inches of being a fireball around 11 pm. Lt Knutson was my pilot . we had no radios but were escorted by 2 A 4s almost to Souda Bay. Ran out of fuel due to flying “dirty” which we never figured on preflight. We bailed out in the mountains in a valley near Kania Crete around midnight. One A4 ran out of fuel on runway and told ship he had seen a fireball. We were reported missing until around midnight when we were found AOK. Oh, we bailed out at 1500 ft and I had remembered previous flights around Crete where all you saw was boulders big as cars but we made it. Slept a few hours and had breakfast on a US Navy LST and then a WF flew us back to the FDR and was invited to the Bridge to be welcome back by the Captain E.W. “the Fox” Hessel. Ending a 12 hour getaway!!!
