HAVE YOU CHECKED THE HOME PAGE FOR THE LATEST INFO?

I have managed to resurrect some of the Guest Books from the previous FDR Websites. There are some that are lost forever but this is the best there is at the moment. There is a lot of good stuff there.

Click on the year you want to view. Click on the left arrow at the top of your browser to return to this page.

SO

Please put your email address in your message so your shipmates can get back to you (if they can remember you).

There is software on board that makes it unreadable to the “bots” who collect that sort of stuff.

All entries must be approved before they will appear in the book. Any inappropriate entries, as well as those with invalid email addresses, will be deleted and will not appear. I check daily so don’t despair if your entry doesn’t appear immediately.

Due to a rash of automated spam messages we now use “captcha” authentication.  Just enter the “captcha” code and then SUBMIT. Don’t worry about upper or lower case….either will work. If you have trouble reading it just click the little button to the right and it will “refresh”. Thanks!

Many shipmates have told me, via email, about having visited this site. Oddly many have not left entries here for their shipmates to see. THEY do wonder how you are and probably would love to hear from you. This is a great way get back in contact.

REMEMBER….THE ONLY  WAY FOR YOUR SHIPMATES TO GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU IS HAVING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN YOUR MESSAGE

For YOUR protection – No home phone numbers or addresses please. Please save that for when you make email contact.

REMEMBER….IF YOU WANT TO BE CONTACTED MAKE SURE YOU PUT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN THE BODY OF YOUR MESSAGE

  8. My father was on board the FDR in early 1953. The ship sailed into the Mediterranean Sea with stops in Greece, France and Italy. My dad passed away from lung cancer in 1965 and as a young boy, I don’t have much information on his time in the navy. If anyone has any knowledge of or any information regarding my dad, James DeFonce, I would really like to hear from you. My e-mail address is pontiac155@verizon.net.

I finished my final cruise in the Navy on the FDR and the 1971 Med Cruise after which I received an early out and left Mayport, Florida for home in Woodland Hills, California. I was a member of the V1 Flight Deck Crew and the Fly 1 Port Catapult Spotter which was an experience that I will always remember and have shared with my grand children.

  12. In response to Joe Ramirez’s email dated March 2, 2014, I believe that the name of the plane captain trainee who was ingested was Ronald Rook, who was assisting with a “standby” on the forward starboard elevator. I think the incident happened in May, 1971, and the aircraft was one of VA-87’s with side number 411. Later, I took a photo of this aircraft after it was repaired and returned to the flight deck; the image is on the FDR website. I also believe that Ronald Rook is memorialized in the 1971 cruise book, but I don’t have a copy to check this.

  13. Stuart (Frenchy) Vigneux

I was a member of VA-12 in CAG 1 aboard the Rosie between 1962 and 1964. I was a member of the Seafarer’s 42 Glee Club under the direction of Lt. Cdr. Vern Yates. Great Med cruise 1962-3. Got ashore most frequently and stood zero duty because of the Glee Club. Great memories.

  14. I’m looking for anyone who served with my grandfather during ww-2
    Ronald Hines!!
    Any information would be appreciated!
    Thank you!
