HAVE YOU CHECKED THE HOME PAGE FOR THE LATEST INFO?

I have managed to resurrect some of the Guest Books from the previous FDR Websites. There are some that are lost forever but this is the best there is at the moment. There is a lot of good stuff there.

Click on the year you want to view. Click on the left arrow at the top of your browser to return to this page.

SO

Please put your email address in your message so your shipmates can get back to you (if they can remember you).

There is software on board that makes it unreadable to the “bots” who collect that sort of stuff.

All entries must be approved before they will appear in the book. Any inappropriate entries, as well as those with invalid email addresses, will be deleted and will not appear. I check daily so don’t despair if your entry doesn’t appear immediately.

Due to a rash of automated spam messages we now use “captcha” authentication.  Just enter the “captcha” code and then SUBMIT. Don’t worry about upper or lower case….either will work. If you have trouble reading it just click the little button to the right and it will “refresh”. Thanks!

Many shipmates have told me, via email, about having visited this site. Oddly many have not left entries here for their shipmates to see. THEY do wonder how you are and probably would love to hear from you. This is a great way get back in contact.

REMEMBER….THE ONLY  WAY FOR YOUR SHIPMATES TO GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU IS HAVING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN YOUR MESSAGE

For YOUR protection – No home phone numbers or addresses please. Please save that for when you make email contact.

Greetings Shipmates! I served on the Rosie Boat as an HM in “H” division from 11.73 through 12.75. Are there any fellow HM’s out there who served during that time?

  8. October 27…68 years ago FD Roosevelt was commissioned in New York on Navy Day. I was born in Seattle at the same time. I left Rosie and the Navy a few days before our mutual 25th birthday.

I served Aboard the Rosie 1966 thru 1968. Vietnam Crusie 1966. My E-Mail address is robersonmitchell@gmail.com. I Was In A-Div. A-4 Group. Would love to hear from my fellow sailors from Then. I still have incredible Memories of those years. I See Young sailors now and often wonder how the Navy Is now in modern times. I Often Laugh when I see them with all those Cell Phone stuff. We did not have those. We didn’t know the Term Cell Phone. Wow. Long Time ago. Good Memories.

  10. I joined the FDR crew in 1959 as a seaman duce radarman in O.I. Division. I think I did at least 3 Med Cruises and several trips to Gitmo. JFK was killed when we were in Gitmo. Worked in CIC. weesebob@aol.com

    P/C AL 307 VAH-3

  12. Worked in CIC for the Rosey’s last cruise. Hit the Oceanus (Liberian Flagged vessel) in the Straits of Messina. We ended up in Naples for about 42 days for repairs. She was my first ship and ended up staying in and riding a Destroyer and Cruiser as well as spending 2 years in Bermuda. My E-Mail is thomatech@neo.rr.com. Sure would be nice to talk to some of my old shipmates.

  13. In April or May 1957, the FDR struck an object off the south east coast of USA, causing damage our screws, which made it necessary to enter the dry docks at portsmouth,va. shortly thereafter. Could anyone relate the cause and details of this collision? I served aboard the FDR in 1957 assigned to the V-3 Div.

    Thanks,
    DE Sanders, USN

  16. Hello, old swabbies, I see that some of the guys where onboard during the Vietnam. My time aboard the FDR was in 1953. Med cruise in 1953 and when we returned after he holidays in 1954 we shipped out to make the trip around the horn of South America and up the pacific coast to bremerton where we de-commissioned her for repairs and add the canted deck. I got orders to Guam and that was the last I seen of her. After Guam I was at NAS Alameda in VA-151 with the F7U3M Cutlass. Squadron shippedout on the Coral Sea. Itrnsfered to FASRON 8 until discharge. Was promoted to AB3 prior to dischage. Re-upped and retired in 1973. One old shellback says hi to everyone. I think VA 151 is at Lemore NAS with F-18E’s now.
