HAVE YOU CHECKED THE HOME PAGE FOR THE LATEST INFO?

I have managed to resurrect some of the Guest Books from the previous FDR Websites. There are some that are lost forever but this is the best there is at the moment. There is a lot of good stuff there.

Click on the year you want to view. Click on the left arrow at the top of your browser to return to this page.

SO

Please put your email address in your message so your shipmates can get back to you (if they can remember you).

There is software on board that makes it unreadable to the “bots” who collect that sort of stuff.

All entries must be approved before they will appear in the book. Any inappropriate entries, as well as those with invalid email addresses, will be deleted and will not appear. I check daily so don’t despair if your entry doesn’t appear immediately.

Due to a rash of automated spam messages we now use “captcha” authentication.  Just enter the “captcha” code and then SUBMIT. Don’t worry about upper or lower case….either will work. If you have trouble reading it just click the little button to the right and it will “refresh”. Thanks!

Many shipmates have told me, via email, about having visited this site. Oddly many have not left entries here for their shipmates to see. THEY do wonder how you are and probably would love to hear from you. This is a great way get back in contact.

REMEMBER….THE ONLY  WAY FOR YOUR SHIPMATES TO GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU IS HAVING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN YOUR MESSAGE

For YOUR protection – No home phone numbers or addresses please. Please save that for when you make email contact.

REMEMBER….IF YOU WANT TO BE CONTACTED MAKE SURE YOU PUT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN THE BODY OF YOUR MESSAGE

  3. Thanks for the web site, what a trip. I purchased two DVD’s because everything I took was 35mm. Can’t wait to get them and show my daughter. I did two med tours, 1970 and 71.

  4. My grandfather served on this ship. His name was Howard Earl Montgomery. I am looking for information about him.

  5. Hey Phil, we served together in the 5th div. I was a GM3. The only other contact I’ve had is with Tom Castiglia from New York state. He said he has been in touch with Ed Dotson & Sid Thrift.

  6. Season Saunders for Steve Saunders

My dad served on uss Roosevelt 1966-1967. He died at age 46 from Mesothelioma. He was an amazing man and anyone who served with him was lucky to have know him. He was one funny bad ass of a man who was the kindest person to never turned down a fight. Aside from doing engine overhaul and working in the boiler room I don’t know much about his military career. He had a large lump of shrapnel in his thigh and he never told us how it got there. I have a certificate awarded to him may 4 1966 stating he had “been found worthy to be numbered as one of our trusty shellbacks”. I think this is when he crossed the equator for the first time?? would like more info about that experience. Despite his death he was always proud to have served. If anyone remembers him I’d love any crumb of a memory to share with my children. Thanks you for your service. Season Saunders Schultz

My father-in-law – Chief Storekeeper Thomas Lloyd Whitman was aboard from what appears to be 1966 through 1969, with a possible extension of two more years.

He just passed away last week and I found many great pictures from his time aboard the Roosevelt, including issues o the Roosevelt Sentiment (August & September 1969), photos on-board as well as many documents – such as Citation from Secretary o the Navy to Task Force Sixty Five, Memos, Orders, etc…

Please contact me in order to forward these pictures to be added to youe FB Page as well as for your website.

I was in E div from 1969 through 1971 as both motor rewind and later #1 SWBS under the Mess deck. Left and went to Newport RI to serve onboard the USS Basilone DD824.

  13. Stephen M. Hicks

I was on the Rosie in 1972 for the Med Cruise. Assigned to Main Supply S-1 Division. Still have my cruise book and my FDR belt buckle.

  14. I have some fotos and gobs of info for the folks who I had association with on the Last Cruise of The Rosie. I still have the Cruisebook and the original patch and t-shirt, I still have some of the original envelopes and letterhead writing paper. I still have my original seabag, cap, P-coat and some cool pics of the evining launches of the F-4 at afterburn on the flight deck. I’ve been going thru some of my older things and I am glad that I was able to hang on to these items; I will try hard to get some of this on the website. I also have the more fond memories of the stops we made and I also have some of the patches of the stops we made in-port.

  15. My father served on the Roosevelt in 1964. His name was John Ewersmann he was an Airman. He passed away in 1968. A few years later our home caught fire and all the things my mother had for my sister and I were lost. If anyone served with him and has pictures of him I would love to have copies. Also, any memories of him would be a bonus. My son is currently serving on the USS Leyte Gulf CG 55 any connection to his grandfather would be cherished.
    thank you
    Joann Ewersmann Ritter

  16. Jim Druckemiller

My dad served on the Roosevelt in its earliest years. He passed on November 17, 2012 at the age of 84. He NEVER lost his pride in serving, especially on CV 42. As a family we shared in his pride and benefited many times over from his time in service.

Thank you all who served on the FDR CV 42!

    Jim Druckemiller
