HAVE YOU CHECKED THE HOME PAGE FOR THE LATEST INFO?

I have managed to resurrect some of the Guest Books from the previous FDR Websites. There are some that are lost forever but this is the best there is at the moment. There is a lot of good stuff there.

Click on the year you want to view. Click on the left arrow at the top of your browser to return to this page.

SO

Please put your email address in your message so your shipmates can get back to you (if they can remember you).

There is software on board that makes it unreadable to the “bots” who collect that sort of stuff.

All entries must be approved before they will appear in the book. Any inappropriate entries, as well as those with invalid email addresses, will be deleted and will not appear. I check daily so don’t despair if your entry doesn’t appear immediately.

Due to a rash of automated spam messages we now use “captcha” authentication.  Just enter the “captcha” code and then SUBMIT. Don’t worry about upper or lower case….either will work. If you have trouble reading it just click the little button to the right and it will “refresh”. Thanks!

Many shipmates have told me, via email, about having visited this site. Oddly many have not left entries here for their shipmates to see. THEY do wonder how you are and probably would love to hear from you. This is a great way get back in contact.

REMEMBER….THE ONLY  WAY FOR YOUR SHIPMATES TO GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU IS HAVING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN YOUR MESSAGE

For YOUR protection – No home phone numbers or addresses please. Please save that for when you make email contact.

REMEMBER….IF YOU WANT TO BE CONTACTED MAKE SURE YOU PUT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN THE BODY OF YOUR MESSAGE

  4. We had brothers aboard 1962-64 – JD and Teddy Strain.
JD was a ship’s serviceman who worked in the laundry while Teddy was an ET in OE Div.
If anyone knows where either is or how to contact them, I’d appreciate an email at rsiefker@indyblue.com.

  5. D Wayne Sturdivant, Lt.[DC]USNR

I would enjoy hearing from anyone in D Division who sailed in the “Med” on FDR during the 1957-1958 Syrian Crisis.

  6. My Father Walter W Krawczyk was on the ship from 56-57 – after he passed away in May of 2010 and I got a tattoo in remembrance of my Dad and the FDR. I am married to a Navy man stationed at Port Hueneme California and next spring he will be retiring after serving 20 yrs!! SO proud of my father and husband 🙂

  7. James V. Anderson

My father, Jim, served on the FDR sometime around 1961-1965. Talking about those days always made him light up. He once told me he was a Boatswain’s mate. He passed away in 2005 and was given a naval burial at sea. If anyone knew him and has any stories and or pictues, I would appreciate it very much.

  8. Hey Rick Renner, I was in V1 Div. & repair-8, I think I have some pictures of You with the other Mates on Deck. If You would like, E-mail Me & I will sent You what I have. I have found Tom Gum, Dennis Cowhig, Roger Cloutier. jwbsboyd@bellsouth.net

  9. Served onboard early 65 through Dec 31 1966. Went on 65 Med Cruise and Vietnam Deployment in 66. Was in CR Division beginning as RMSN then RM3..then RM2 and RM1 after leaving at Subic in 31Dec66. Am interested in hearing from anyone in CR Division during 65 and 66—long time ago guys and much is a blur. Name was incorrectly listed as R. D. King in 66 Cruise book. Have some docs (watch bills, other info) from that period but would like to fill in the blanks as I am a genealogy nut. If you were in CR Division during that period please let me know. Thanks.

I found this site after visiting my 87-year-old Dad today. We were discussing his Navy days and he was wondering whatever happened to the USS Franklin Roosevelt. I offered to check online for info. He was stationed in Rio when the ship was there in 1946 for the initial shakedown cruise. He and several other young Navy men were invited to go aboard and spend the night for the Brazilian President’s inaugural commemoration. He had a quite a few memories to relate about the event, the planes, the guns, and target practice incident. I’m glad I’ll be able to now give him a report of her history. He’s got pictures of his time in Rio but unfortunately none from this historical event.
