HAVE YOU CHECKED THE HOME PAGE FOR THE LATEST INFO?
I have managed to resurrect some of the Guest Books from the previous FDR Websites. There are some that are lost forever but this is the best there is at the moment. There is a lot of good stuff there.

SO
Please put your email address in your message so your shipmates can get back to you (if they can remember you).
There is software on board that makes it unreadable to the “bots” who collect that sort of stuff.
All entries must be approved before they will appear in the book. Any inappropriate entries, as well as those with invalid email addresses, will be deleted and will not appear. I check daily so don’t despair if your entry doesn’t appear immediately.
Due to a rash of automated spam messages we now use “captcha” authentication. Just enter the “captcha” code and then SUBMIT. Don’t worry about upper or lower case….either will work. If you have trouble reading it just click the little button to the right and it will “refresh”. Thanks!
Many shipmates have told me, via email, about having visited this site. Oddly many have not left entries here for their shipmates to see. THEY do wonder how you are and probably would love to hear from you. This is a great way get back in contact.
REMEMBER….THE ONLY WAY FOR YOUR SHIPMATES TO GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU IS HAVING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN YOUR MESSAGE
For YOUR protection – No home phone numbers or addresses please. Please save that for when you make email contact.
Remember vividly the storm and the Hangar Bay Door being knocked out of it’s tracks. Also, lining up to donate blood for our shipmate who was killed by that door. Life is sweet and sour,no matter where you Moor. Joined Georgia Guard, after 13 years of being out of the Navy.

1973 to 1974 as a Radioman, out of Mayport to dry dock in Philadelphia after the hurricane that tore the elevator killed a master chief and took a prop. We were scheduled to gather refugees and that meant a trip around South America because we wouldn’t fit through the Panama Canal. She was a good carrier.
Instead of R Comany I should have said R Division. My apologies.
My email address is mrrsull@hotmail.com if any one would like to contact my dad,
I can pass your contact info to him.
Thanks again.
My dad, Robert Sullivan, was a metal smith in R company in 53. He sailed the Mediterranean, then down around South America and to Puget Sound before being reassigned. Dad is alive and well. He recently gave me a Gibson guitar that he bought while onboard from O.B. Jordon. That started me researching to see if I could learn more about him. Mr. Jordon was in a maintenance position, but dad could not remember exactly what it was. He was also in a band on the Roosevelt. Another band member dad mentioned was Rod Batten. Any information I could get on these men would be appriciated. I have read many stories about the Roosevelt and then called dad to ask him about them. When I asked dad about the collision in the Med while taking on AV gas he told me the same story I read about on this web site, and added that a hole had been poked in the stack of the Roosevelt by a boom from the other ship, and that he had hung from a bosun’s chair to place a patch over the hole. We have had some great conversations because of the information on this site. Thanks everyone!
Boarded in June of ’58. OI Div. Left in Barcelona on 5/60.
Started college 9/60 and never looked back. Visited the ship in the navy yard in Brooklyn in ’62 and decided I’d made the right decision. “Interesting” memories of the time(s) aboard.
Served in the Radio Shack Jan, 1958 until Dec, 1959, OR div. as RM3. I remember the Dry dock at Bayonne, N.J., the shakedown cruise in the Carribbean in 58 and the Med cruise in 59. Does anyone remember the diesel fuel that got into the fresh water tanks after we were in drydock in Bayonne?
We had diesel fuel tasting water all the way through the shakedown cruise.
I believe, if I remenber correctly, we went to Nofolk to have the water tanks cleaned.
Anyway I always wondered about what the rest of the men in OR div. did with the rest of their lives. Would like to hear from someone. e-mail me at riptide42@sbcglobal.net
Serverd in Fox Division in the late 60’s as a Fire Control Tech.
Webmaster Larry Blumenthal just posted the pictures I took of my Navy experiences from 1957-1959. I think the actual count is 469 pics in all, as well as as an almost day-by-day account of my time on the FDR. He put a lot of time into getting these on the website, and did an outstanding job of presenting both.
I’d like to hear from any of my shipmates from back then, as well as anyone who would like to comment on the pictures or story. My e-mail address is lfels@comcast.net.
I was an MR3 in the A Division and was assigned to the Machine Shop.
Served in Fox division during two Med cruises in early 60’s as a Fire Control tech.
Served in “W” Division

Hi:
My Daugher found this web site and gave me the DVD’s of the1957-58 and 1959 Med Cruises, as well as almost everything in the Ship’s Store for Christmas this year. She really made my day.
The DVD’s really brought back some good memories. Hopefully, some of you will recognize me from ‘A’ division and the Machine Shop. I engraved a lot of Zippo lighters with the Ship’s logo and your name in the two years I was aboard.
ET’s Officers, YN’s – if you were in OE Div,
especially from 1960-1965, contact me
I’m trying to locate as many shipmates from OE Div as possible.
I’ve already accounted for 45 ET’s & Officers!

Was aboard the F.D.R. from it’s re-commission (April 56) until Sept. 59.
my name is rickey baker i am the grandson of robert w baker and i just wanted to tell all his shipmates that he died on dec 5 2011 if any one has any stories about serving with him i would like to hear them.
I served on the Roosevelt as a RM2 from August 1968 until April 1970. She was in dry dock in Norfolk when I first came aboard. I served as master-at-arms while in dry dock and also during sea trials.
I would like to locate Carl Ludke from Michigan, Joe Capolla and Al Campbel from NY. My best friends onboard. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Ron WYN3N@aol.com
Straight out of boot camp,in 1948,124 other boots and I, went from Great Lakes to Portsmouth to the FDR. I was in the V-3 division and went from an AA to AD2 and I had a great career on the ship those 3 years. I never returned to a ship but have 12,000 hours in the air in Connies and C-130s. Now, at 81 years old, I look back and enjoy the memories of the great friends I had onboard and all the cruises. Fair winds and calm seas to all my shipmates. Ron
V-4 Division, ’71-’72. The worse time I ever had in my life, and the best time I ever had in my life was the year and a half that I spent on that carrier. If they asked me to help them out for a week, I’d be there in a second.
I speak for a handful of our old shipmates when I say that we know that you know that we know where you are, and that you refuse to come to any reunions. Hey, if you can’t afford to come, we don’t care, we’ll help you out. If you got fat, we don’t care, wait ’til you see these guys. If your car is a piece of crap, we don’t care. At least you got a car. If you still owe somebody money from 1971, THEN we care.
Seriously, it ain’t gonna’ kill you. Remember, these are the guys who would’ve put their butts on the line for you up on deck years ago, and still would. At least send one of us an email and lie to us. We’ll accept that. eas1949@aol.com
I was on the Roosevelt from Oct 69 to Jul 71. Made two cruises to the Med. Worked in the
CR Div as a teletype operator/teletype repairman. Great memories!!
I served on the Rosey 63-65 in dental department. I have great memories of my 2 Med. cruises and a couple shakedowns down Gitmo. Everybody in dental called me Rich. If anybody out there remembers me, send me an Email.
I proudly served aboard the Roosevelt beginning in mid summer of 1970 until late 1971 after the Med cruise. Originally I was assigned to V-2 Division in charge of the electrical systems on the catapults and arresting gear. After the Med cruise I transferred to E-Division. Some of my best memories are of life aboard the Roosevelt.
