HAVE YOU CHECKED THE HOME PAGE FOR THE LATEST INFO?
I have managed to resurrect some of the Guest Books from the previous FDR Websites. There are some that are lost forever but this is the best there is at the moment. There is a lot of good stuff there.

SO
Please put your email address in your message so your shipmates can get back to you (if they can remember you).
There is software on board that makes it unreadable to the “bots” who collect that sort of stuff.
All entries must be approved before they will appear in the book. Any inappropriate entries, as well as those with invalid email addresses, will be deleted and will not appear. I check daily so don’t despair if your entry doesn’t appear immediately.
Due to a rash of automated spam messages we now use “captcha” authentication. Just enter the “captcha” code and then SUBMIT. Don’t worry about upper or lower case….either will work. If you have trouble reading it just click the little button to the right and it will “refresh”. Thanks!
Many shipmates have told me, via email, about having visited this site. Oddly many have not left entries here for their shipmates to see. THEY do wonder how you are and probably would love to hear from you. This is a great way get back in contact.
REMEMBER….THE ONLY WAY FOR YOUR SHIPMATES TO GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU IS HAVING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN YOUR MESSAGE
For YOUR protection – No home phone numbers or addresses please. Please save that for when you make email contact.

Me again! LOL. But seriously, I’m looking for AOAN Caster. Ships company on the FDR Forward Bomb Assy. ” 72-73 ” A lot of men owe thair lives to him. including me.
P. Murphy: Was your Dad in a Squadron or Ships Company?? Which Squadron?? If he was in VF-74 or VAH-3 I might be able to help.
My father, James Murphy, ADJ1, was on the FDR during the 57/58 cruise.

I served aboard the Rosie from 68-70 in Personnel. I was attached to the Educational Services Office ESO. During my tour with the Rosie we went through the shipyards in Portsmouth and then went to Mayport. Pulled a few shakedowns and headed to the Med in January of 70. I was released from Active Duty in June of 70 upon return from the Med. From 66-70 I served with VC-4 out of Ceceil Field in Jacksonville, FL. We were a Utility Squadron and towed targets for the Fleet with F-8’s and US2C’s. During my stay there someone figured out I could type and moved me to Personnel. Then it was off to the Rosie.
Great memories and a great crew!
Ship’s Company 1956 – 1959. Electrician’s Mate Second. Trying to remember all the names in “E” division, but the memories are dimming. Would like to hear from any of my shipmates, especially the crew of #2 Switchboard and any of the other electricians on board. After my discharge, I obtained a degree in electrical engineering and have been working in the electrical industry ever since, still am.
I guess I’m one of the bitter ones. All my life from the moment I can remember stuff I wanted to be in the Navy. I learned to read by reading the Blue Jackets Manual & the Encyclopedia Brittanica in the late 50’s. All 5 of my brothers joined the Navy and 4 of us served on the FDR some of us at the same time. I reported aboard when the FDR returned in late Dec.72′ or Jan. 73′. I even helped tie her up from that Med cruise. After the baloney that happened in the spring and the summer of 73 I became disenchanted with the the favoritism and lack of camaraderie. I was discharged in Aug. ’73. I’ll grant yall I was young and immature. But since leaving the Navy in 73′ I have been bitter and lost. Life has been a bitter pill ever since. This is May 2009 and after 2 relatively mild heart attacks 2 years ago. I look forward to the next one. Hope it takes care of business.
Served on the roosie from 1962-66 in 1-C-1 Boiler room. Was on watch when we lost screw 1n 1964 an had to come back to Bayonne to replace it.
Served aboard Rosie from late 1965 till late 1967. I remember being made a Shellback but lost certificate. Anyone remember the date and place?
I was a boat crewman, in either 3rd or 4th from about late 1965. In Barcelona we hung out at the Kit Kat Club. Anyone remember that place not far from the Columbus statute. Why? Several female exchange students from Boston loved the place. Naturally, so did we. Great girls. Good food.
I’m not sure why I remember Mike Kinsella (? spelt wrong). I think we used hit several of the Jack’s Beach clubs together. If so, Hello.
I served aboard during the extended 72 cruise. I was a plane captain with VF-84 and was tad to the supply division most of that time in the barber shop. Doing what we did will never be forgotten. The ONLY way to do what we did was the way we did it. I believe ALL nineteen year olds should have to serve at least one year in a military service. Make a BIG difference in this country!!!!!! Hi to all that served!!!!!
Glad to hear of this site. Retired in 2000. Police Officer/Safety/Security Director. Served on board “Rosie” 1961 Med Cruise. Will be celebrating our 50th with 5 daughters, 11 grand children and 6 great grand children. Wife and I now enjoy traveling in our motor home and we would love to attend a reunion now (after all these years) found out about it.
Served on board for the 1961 Med Cruise. PN3
Just received the DVD of 1961 cruise and it was worth every penny. Larry is still working on the other cruises, and needs movies you may have taken while you were aboard. It brings back lots of memories from 49-50 years ago.
Dave
I was in V1 coming from VU4 in Va. I was aboard 60 & 61. The very first day after getting out of I Div. I was on the flight deck and saw a chief get sucked into an F8U Crusader. What a first day. Never will forget that as well as all the good times. Like taking a gallon can of peanut butter and storing it in a locker somewhere, as we were replenishing. Also seeing 5 gallon cans of paint thrown overboard during a “floatation test”.
usa

Hi there, you made my day. This is a nice site
and I was very happy to find it. I was in the Navy,
from 1964 to 1968. Most all of that time was on
the USS FRD CVA-42. I was in V2- Division. The
Nam, Cruises, of 1966 to 1967 video, I saw a little on the you tube. I lost my Cruises book of that time, 1966 -1967, and have never found how to get one again. Let me know the price of you DVD’s, again nice work.
CATS 74-75 Made alot of memories in such a short time. Never give’im up. Big ship with a crew that had a big heart. Glad to have served on her & with you great Americans.
I joined the Rosie while she was in the yards in Brooklyn in Oct. ’61.
I was in the communications div. also spent some time in KP.
I left Rosie in June ’61 from Cannes-Nice France to be flown back to Norfolk for early discharge which went into effect while I was on Med cruise.
Would like to hear from anyone from communications div. during this period.
I served for 3 years 1951-1954 in the Catapult crew. I was transfered when the ship went into the Bremerton,wa navy yard to be refitted with the canted deck etc. i would be interested in hearing from any other cat crew men who served at the same time.
I was with VA-176 on Rosie from 1972 to 1974.
