HAVE YOU CHECKED THE HOME PAGE FOR THE LATEST INFO?
I have managed to resurrect some of the Guest Books from the previous FDR Websites. There are some that are lost forever but this is the best there is at the moment. There is a lot of good stuff there.

SO
Please put your email address in your message so your shipmates can get back to you (if they can remember you).
There is software on board that makes it unreadable to the “bots” who collect that sort of stuff.
All entries must be approved before they will appear in the book. Any inappropriate entries, as well as those with invalid email addresses, will be deleted and will not appear. I check daily so don’t despair if your entry doesn’t appear immediately.
Due to a rash of automated spam messages we now use “captcha” authentication. Just enter the “captcha” code and then SUBMIT. Don’t worry about upper or lower case….either will work. If you have trouble reading it just click the little button to the right and it will “refresh”. Thanks!
Many shipmates have told me, via email, about having visited this site. Oddly many have not left entries here for their shipmates to see. THEY do wonder how you are and probably would love to hear from you. This is a great way get back in contact.
REMEMBER….THE ONLY WAY FOR YOUR SHIPMATES TO GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU IS HAVING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN YOUR MESSAGE
For YOUR protection – No home phone numbers or addresses please. Please save that for when you make email contact.

To Frank Turchi, Good to see your posting. I was an ADR-2 on that. Det. Remember the beer bust when LCDR Richards made CDR? The whole cruise was a good as the two others I made aboard the FDR.
For those serving with Robert Eddie Whaley on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1967-68, he is now deceased, but his sons still live in Virginia (Cumberland, VA & Richmond, VA). They would love to see posts from friends of their dad who served with him.

I was in Attack Squadron VA-87 From 09/71 to 06/75. I miss the Med-Cruises. I don’t miss the drinking water; cross contaminated with jet fuel. would like to hear from any of you.
kbernardfrazier@yahoo.com.
I hope all of my shipmates that are still around are doing okay, 1948-1952.
God Bless you all.
Fred.
I’m trying to get in touch with anyone in the IC gang of ROSIE from 57-59 era. I lost my cruise book and that has caused a lot of trouble. classicproperties@comcast.net
George. 58 and 59 are one book. If I get enough requests I’ll scan mine to CD.
Looking for cruise books for 1958, 1959 and 1960
I was the Det CPO with HU-2 from the beginning of 1964 until it’s return from the Med in Dec.
Had a great crew of 35 of different rates with Cdr. William Richards as OINC.
Longest part of the cruise was when we had to return to Bayonne, NJ to replace the shafts and screws and then returning to the Med to finish two months.
The crew named our Helo’s, “Faith, Hope & Charity”. We had to give one Helo to our sister relieving Det.
If you look close, at he beginning of the film “Flight Deck”, you’ll see a Young Chief carrying a small child in the hangar deck (In Khaki’s and black raincoat), that’s yours truly.
Had a great cruise visiting many interesting ports and especially Palermo, Sicily where I got to meet my father’s Aunt (my great Aunt) and a bunch of cousins. Definitely a day to remember.
Now retired after 34 years in the Navy and a volunteer at the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida…Come visit and ask for the Aircrat Tech Librarian.

Did anyone know a man by the name of Bill “Bo” McMurrain? He served 59-63 but was on the FDR in 62-63 I believe, or at least I have the Med Cruise books from those years. He was my father, who passed away in 2000. Our family has been trying to get his records with no luck and he rarely talked about what his role in the Navy was. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on his experiences or knew him at all as he did mention working with the radar on your ship. Any correspondence would be greatly appreciated.

Ken.

In reference to Dan Pellegrini’s e-mail. I remember that short cruise from Norfolk to Mayport very well. I have, and know of, no pictures from that time. Wish I had taken some. I remember a shipmate that had his 68 Camaro on the flightdeck. We went up at night and set and listened to the radio. They also had roving watches walking the decks at night for security.
I believe that overhall time in Portsmouth was more like 11 to 12 months.
Robert 1966 – 1970
I was an E4 jet mechanic aboard the FDR, ’58-’59. Also in the squadron of VMF AW 114.
Great website . VF 84 . jimburroughs@comcast.net
Anyone know my older brother John Henry Ewersmann JR. He served on the Roosevelt 64-68 I think. If so email me at dewersmann@charter.net
About a year or so after getting out of the navy he died of brain cancer. I was hoping to hear from someone that knew him. I was five when he died.
I got thhis e-mail from Dan Pellegrini the other day. Can ANYONE help out here? I’ll post it on the site as well.
Hi Larry,
I’ve got a question that I hope you can pass along to all our shipmates. When the FDR came back from the 67-68 Med cruise, it went into the Norfolk Ship Yards for a refit that I think lasted 6 months. When the ship became seaworthy again, it changed home ports from Norfolk to Jacksonville. Before we left Norfolk, the ship offered to transport anyone’s car from Norfolk to Jacksonville. I remember the flight deck FULL of cars bumper to bumper and side to side. All three hangar bays were equally loaded and everything was off loaded when we made port in JAX.
Here’s the question: Does anyone have any photographs taken during that transport event in their personal archives? I don’t understand why I never thought of taking even a still shot, but I never did. I’ve talked about that event to hundreds of people over the years, but would love to have a still shot from it.
Thanks,
Dan Pellegrini
I served on the F.D.R. from 10/56 to 5/60 and was assigned to M Division #2 Engine Room, Machinist Mate 2/C. She was a great ship and I have many good memories. Any shipmates who served during this time please email me at rdurman@att.net. I would love to hear from you.

Update: to all who would like to lend a hand with the history of the Jolly Rogers:
jherculano@almansur.com
imensan@gmail.com
GREAT site. Almost had a good kind of heart attack when I saw so many good photos of Phantoms with the Bones of my beloved Jolly Rogers!
Pity you don’t have the e-mails of the guys who contributed them, I’d sure like to pester them for permission to show a few on my Jolly Rogers website.
Keep up the good work. This type of memoirs CANNOT be lost.
