HAVE YOU CHECKED THE HOME PAGE FOR THE LATEST INFO?
I have managed to resurrect some of the Guest Books from the previous FDR Websites. There are some that are lost forever but this is the best there is at the moment. There is a lot of good stuff there.

SO
Please put your email address in your message so your shipmates can get back to you (if they can remember you).
There is software on board that makes it unreadable to the “bots” who collect that sort of stuff.
All entries must be approved before they will appear in the book. Any inappropriate entries, as well as those with invalid email addresses, will be deleted and will not appear. I check daily so don’t despair if your entry doesn’t appear immediately.
Due to a rash of automated spam messages we now use “captcha” authentication. Just enter the “captcha” code and then SUBMIT. Don’t worry about upper or lower case….either will work. If you have trouble reading it just click the little button to the right and it will “refresh”. Thanks!
Many shipmates have told me, via email, about having visited this site. Oddly many have not left entries here for their shipmates to see. THEY do wonder how you are and probably would love to hear from you. This is a great way get back in contact.
REMEMBER….THE ONLY WAY FOR YOUR SHIPMATES TO GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU IS HAVING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN YOUR MESSAGE
For YOUR protection – No home phone numbers or addresses please. Please save that for when you make email contact.

I was on the Rosie for the 1970 and 1971 Med cruise. I was a A-6 pilot in VA176.
I served aboard FDR from Jan 1971 – June 1972 as the jet test cell operator in the IM2 Jet Shop. Great ship the Rosey
Great ship, lots of wonderful memories of my time with my shipmates.
My father served on the USS FDR from 1948-1953. He has told us many wonderful
memories of the days he served on the ship.
We are secretly, throwing him an 80th Birthday party, it would be grand if there are any of his old shipmate buddies that could send a congratulatory Happy 80th or just
to say “hi”.
His 80th is May 31, 2010. I have a very exciting birthday cake that is custom made with
the emblem on his ball cap of the USS FDR CV-42.
Hope there is some one who will make his day very special.
My father grew up in Wellsville NY and still lives there. Raised 8 children.
From his second eldest daughter.

I served on the Rosie from Sept 75 – Oct. 77 mostly in the Shipfitter Shop. It was one of the most memorable duty stations I ever had because of the guys I worked with. Never saw a better bunch of men than they were!
I retired in 1984 and have been a fundamental Baptist preacher ever since. (Quite a change from the life I was living when on the Rosie) I’m making plans to get to the next reunion. I would love to hear from any of the guys I served with on Rosie.

Greetings,
Still have those fond memories. Always been a US Naval enthusiast and build models.
Served aboard for the 62-63 Med cruise in OC Div. Would like to hear from anyone who served with me in OC during that time, especially J. Williams from Charlotte, TX.

Glen Shira,
My uncle served aboard the Roosevelt from 71-74. His name was Hector Mendoza and on the 72 deployment he was in S2MC. I read your statement and i was curious if you knew him.
I served on the ROSIE 1961-1961 E Div. EM3. Worked in lighting shop way back aft over fantail. There was a walkway behind us that ran just under flightdeck we could sit on walk way and watch planes come in just over our heads. I’ve been looking for some shipmates
Gary Thompson, Thomas Asleson, Zac Whaley, Dodd. Vesco. and anybody else that served in lighting shop during that time. my email address is calex1940@att.net If you are or know how to reach any of these guys gimmee a hollar. Smooth sailing and fair winds to you all.

I arrived in Mayport the end of March 1973 and could not beleive that I was going to be living on this ship. I became a mess cook in the butcher shop under CS1 Abernathy and worked with a Brian St Onge. I decided to strike for cook and worked the storage areas in the holds below the ship for CS1 Kissle. I then decided to become a dental technician and started OJT in dental under Commander Terhune and DKC Desko. That didn’t turn out too well because they lost my original orders for dental “A” school and had to resubmit. By the time I got the orders back they wanted me to extend my enlistment by a year and a half instead of six months. I refused and was exiled to deck division. I spent my last year in the psycotic fifth. It was by far the best year I spent in the Navy. I met some first rate ,hard partyin, hard workin people that forever standout in my memories. Danny Joe Miller, Head, Bug, Barny, Brame, Crazy Vic, Ricky Miller, Cunningham, and other outstanding people that I have had the pleasure to know. I got out in Sept 75 on a three month school cut to attend college in Cleveland Ohio and still live in the area.
January 1972 to June 1976 – AIMD/IM-3 (Module Repair, A-6) – AQ2 (ship’s company airdale). Other temp duties assigned: Repair 7F-Unit 1 (team leader); Mess deck Master-at-arms; Shore patrol; and the most fun duty was as a SP/French interpreter in Cannes, France. 3 Med cruises (’72, ’73-74, ’75).
They appear from time to time on eBay. Just keep watching.
My father Jack Kelly served on the decommissioning crew on the Rosie. He gave me the original coin when I went into the service. somewhere in the course of my many station moves I lost the coin and I have been wanting to find a replacement, even if its a replica to give to him. anyone know how to find one?
Made the 1972 cruise & half the 1975 Cruise, doing great live west of Cleveland Ohio
Hello!
“USS FDR” has a link to Royal Danish Air Force Airstation Karup, Denmark. In 1952 during excercise “Main Brace” a Skyraider forcelanded gear-up just inside the coast of Jutland. The pilot LT Gallegos was unhurt. The AD6 was towed backwards 60 miles! to Karup Airstation and repaired.

And a huge thank you Wayne R. Ball for your generosity, that has brought me a great deal closer to my dad in his days of service.
4th Div. 63-65, any of you guys still alive? If so I would like to hear from you

A resounding HURRAH for our host! My 1946 DVD is outstanding. There’s a good chance my dad’s aircraft is in one of the many films of Helldivers…now I need to find out which one. Thanks, Larry, and Godspeed!
My Dad, Chief Petty Officer Oswald (Artie) Blumberg served on the “Rosie” from 1962 until his retirement in 1963. I have his 1963 Med Cruise book. He is now resting in Arlington National Cemetary with fellow service men and shipmates. I am happy to be able to visit this website and honor his memory.
Machinist Mate in 3 Main Engine, 73 – 75
Served onboard “Rosie” from June 1969 to Feb 1972 in “D” division and “Chief Mess Deck Master-at-arms” for nine months. Left the “swanky frankie” in the Med. via C1A, headed to Greece- emergency tranfer. Anyone from S2MC can drop me a line!
