HAVE YOU CHECKED THE HOME PAGE FOR THE LATEST INFO?
I have managed to resurrect some of the Guest Books from the previous FDR Websites. There are some that are lost forever but this is the best there is at the moment. There is a lot of good stuff there.

Please put your email address in your message so your shipmates can get back to you (if they can remember you).
There is software on board that makes it unreadable to the “bots” who collect that sort of stuff.
All entries must be approved before they will appear in the book. Any inappropriate entries, as well as those with invalid email addresses, will be deleted and will not appear. I check daily so don’t despair if your entry doesn’t appear immediately.
Due to a rash of automated spam messages we now use “captcha” authentication. Just enter the “captcha” code and then SUBMIT. Don’t worry about upper or lower case….either will work. If you have trouble reading it just click the little button to the right and it will “refresh”. Thanks!
Many shipmates have told me, via email, about having visited this site. Oddly many have not left entries here for their shipmates to see. THEY do wonder how you are and probably would love to hear from you. This is a great way get back in contact.
REMEMBER….THE ONLY WAY FOR YOUR SHIPMATES TO GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU IS HAVING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN YOUR MESSAGE

My Dad was on the 66-67 Viet Nam tour, William Koenig, HMCS. Dad passed away April, 2009. I’m sure he would extend his greetings to all his shipmates.
I was attached to the FDR from Feb 15th 1952 until 54?? just after she went to Bremerton for conversion. I was in the A Div started as SA finished as EN3. Had a lot of good times on that ship. I worked in the emergency generator rooms and was a boat engineer. Finished my 22 years of Actdu in 79 as AWC . SA-FN-EN3-EN2-TD2-TD1-AW1-AWC. Lots of fun and I still remember some of the guys I worked with on the FDR. Retired in Florida, Leesburg.

GMT3 Served aboard from fall of 62 till summer of 64. W division. 2 med cruises. Also Brooklyn Naval ship yard 1963 then Cuba. Thanks so much for all the work that has gone into this site. Love the ball caps too.
VF-84 Line Rat on 70 Med cruise. Later worked jet shop on same cruise. Lookng to trigger someones memory. mlease47@hotmail.com
Served aboard the Roosevelt from September 1964 to February 1968. Assigned to E Division as an IC2. Places worked included: Forward Gyro, IC Room, Movie Booth, Sound Power Shop and Mess Deck Master At Arms.
I want my e-mail to show. vtxcandyred@buckeye-express.com. I believe I signed the old guest book but I may as well update. This is how I found my old bud Phil. I served aboard during the 1972 extended cruise. I was a plane captain in squadron VF-84. I was also tad to the barber shop for almost the entire cruise. After I got fairly good at cutting hair, I was sent to the first class/chiefs barber shop with Winstead/Bumstead. What a team. There were a lot of good people I met and had some rip roaring good times ashore. It was a time when the big “Z” was CNO so hair styles and facial hair was a bit less strict so I got good at getting the guys off the ship for liberty with the chiefs watching them debarking. I wish I had kepk closer contact with the guys but I was discharged in April of 73.
Served on the Rosie from 76 to 77 went on her last Med cruise and took her to be decommissioned. From Mayport FLA. to Norfolk Naval Ship Yard. They let us bring our vehicles on board to go to Norfolk. What a sight to see her pull in Norfolk with vehicles on her flight deck! The XO had his camping trailer on the hanger deck! Motor cycles were put in the magazines. Listen up I have one of the few original decommissioning silver coins they sent me to my next duty station. What a surprise. I guess it was money left over from all them fines they didnt get to spend. I think I was about the last to go but I didnt get a piece of her union jack… Any body interested contact me at chachi057@yahoo.com MMFN Garcia 2 Engine

Hello
Looking for photos of my father Stephen A Hodgkins from 1971. I believe he worked on the flight deck. Thanks
Great site! I too was down in San Diego and toured USS Midway in February. I’ve been looking for John Walsh for some time and the Midway tour has increased my interest again. John served on the USS FD Roosevelt in the Vietnam era and he had stayed with my family in Renata and Castlegar BC Canada prior to enlisting in the USN. I’ve not heard from him since and am wondering how he’s doing. I’d just like to touch base with him.
Thanks, Gerry Rempel, Castlegar, British Columbia, Canada. Email: candgrempel@shaw.ca
I took a tour of the a/c midway when i was in san deigo recently. Got to thinking about my old ship Roosevelt and starting looking for some information. I came across this site and have had a good time looking up some info. Nice job. I was on the Roosevelt 8/72 to 12/72 with va-15. I’ll be checking back.
Just ran across this web site surfin, and enjoyed it. A lot of hard work , A lot of good work. I was on the Rosie on the 62 to 63 med cruise. Temporary attachment to VAH11. Of all the places and stations I had experience at, I enjoyed the Rosie the best. I think the crew of that ship treated the squadrons with respect and showed pride in their ship. They did an excellent job of supporting the fly on guys great and appreciated what they did. From doing our uniforms, great chow, to coffee for our ready rooms. The helo guys are in a class of their own with their rescue swimmers. No telling how many lives they have saved. Above all, they showed that from the gally guys, to supply, to laundry, to refuelers, to the ship newspaper and even the onboard radio station, it takes everyone doing their part to make a team. Capt. Clark was a friend of mine and after going on his ship, I saw what a team he had to work with. THANK YOU
I am not listed on the crew roster for 1967-1968. Ensign , CR division.

I was with VA-172 65-68 I was an AT I have many fond memories of the time I spent in the Navy. VA-172 had the best personnel in the Navy. Like many old codgers, I go sit around a table a MacDonalds and talk about the fun days of military service with some other old vets.
Just want to thank you for a splendid and highly enjoyable web site. Great for research as well as I am currently working on a 1/1200 model of the FDR. I never had the honor of serving on her, but over the years have heard many good things. My brother, Kenneth G. Florence, did serve on her somewhere around 1949-50. I do not know if it was as part of the ship’s company or one of her embarked air squadrons. I remember a couple of short stories he told, and will gladly share them if you are interested.
Again, thanks for a great site, one that I’ll be visiting often.
I was a pilot in VMF(AW)-114 during the Spring/Summer1959 Med Cruise. This was one of those “defining experiences” in life that has served me well over the past 50 years. After standing a number of mid-watch catapult alerts – and always getting launched at 0345 – I got to where this seemed “normal” and I accepted it as such. For the time period it was somewhat unusual for a Marine squadron to become part of a Carrier Air Group for an entire cruise. The FDR was a good ship with excellent leadership. It was a good looking ship with a rakish, low profile. I believe that it was the only CV in the Navy that had the optical landing aid (mirror) on the starboard side. I may have some 8mm movie film taken aboard during this cruise. I will contact you if I find same. Thanks for your efforts in working up this fine website.
Larry, great job on the web site, keep up the good work. Many thanks for adding
VMF(AW)114 to the site. That ’59 Med Cruise was a real eye opener to a small town boy from south east Texas, have been back to Europe many times since then, even had the opportunity to work in the north of Spain for a few of years. VMF(AW)114 had a reunion of the cruise squadron a few years ago (thanks to the work of John Cal Berry) at Cherry Point MAS. Around twenty of us were able to attend, was a really great gathering.
