  1. Larry I am still going through my picks. I will have a disc made and get it to you. Keep up the good work. Dennis

  2. Scott Mead 1956 - 1958

Larry, Thanks for reviving the old Navy saying, “Fair winds and following seas”. I first heard it in boot camp and maybe once or twice while I served. A couple years ago I was watching NCIS and Gibbs used it as a farewell. It brought back so many memories that it almost brought tears to my eyes.

  3. I would be very interested in a copy on the 1972 cruise book. I contacted someone in D.C. and it was like $13.00 a page to copy it.

  4. Louise, I can only work with what film people took and submitted for the video. There are Marines in the video, however they are from the Marine Fighter Squadron. I certainly would have included the Marine Detachment if they had been on any of the film.

  5. Louise Goldsberry

I am unable to find anything on the Marine Detachment in pictures or video in the 1957-58 Med cruise. Is there nothing available? I have purchased the video and it is very interesting showing landmarks, etc but no Marines.

  6. The rosters from the Cruise Books for 1964 & 65 are on the Crew Roster page. If they don’t appear in any Cruise Book I don’t have any information on them. If you are trying to locate them now and you know the name and approx. age I would suggest using privateeye.com or zabasearch.com to start.

  7. larry,

i do have a 1972 cruise book if you still need one. i will need to get into my rafters to get it and if i recall it is in less than stellar condition, but not too bad. i also have a good collection of photos that i need to get to. i will see about sending them to you on a cd.

i just purchased both cd’s of the 73-74 cruise book, which mine is in really bad condition, and the 75 cruise book, which i never received.

i will let you know the condition of the 72 book as soon as i dig it up.

thanks for this site. it has brought back some great memories and put me in touch with yet another old shipmate, phil dyer. he was a friend of a friend on the ship and we met that way. i still am in contact with several old shipmates, and 1 airdale (LOL)…would you like their email addresses to add to your list? i am sending them all your web site address.

my time aboard was from aug. 72 to feb. 76. i started out in A div., A-5 gang (boat shop) and was the engineer on the Capts. GIG from nov. 72- mar.74. i was sent to fill a billet for an enginman in the A-1 gang (hydraulics: elevators, steering, anchor windlass, etc.) after my time on the GIG and was there till i got out.

those were some of the best years of my life, certainly the most memorable. thanks again for the hard work of assembling this site.

  8. Hi Larry
I have a copy of the 1972 Med Cruise “cruise book” if you still need it to copy
    Terry

  9. Gary Chamberlain

I have a scrapbook of the CapeTown Newspapers when we were there in 67. I can scan them and send if you can use them.

  10. Would like to have a copy of the 67-68 med cruise book. Mine burned in a house fire. Let me know if and when you can get me a copy. Thanks.

  11. Phil, It just happens that the 1975 book is the next one I am going to work on. I’m finishing up on the 1973-74 book now.

  12. I would have no problem buying a digital copy of a cruise book I never got a chance to buy (1975), at a reasonable price of course (:
