HAVE YOU CHECKED THE HOME PAGE FOR THE LATEST INFO?

I have managed to resurrect some of the Guest Books from the previous FDR Websites. There are some that are lost forever but this is the best there is at the moment. There is a lot of good stuff there.

Click on the year you want to view. Click on the left arrow at the top of your browser to return to this page.

SO

Please put your email address in your message so your shipmates can get back to you (if they can remember you).

There is software on board that makes it unreadable to the “bots” who collect that sort of stuff.

All entries must be approved before they will appear in the book. Any inappropriate entries, as well as those with invalid email addresses, will be deleted and will not appear. I check daily so don’t despair if your entry doesn’t appear immediately.

Due to a rash of automated spam messages we now use “captcha” authentication.  Just enter the “captcha” code and then SUBMIT. Don’t worry about upper or lower case….either will work. If you have trouble reading it just click the little button to the right and it will “refresh”. Thanks!

Many shipmates have told me, via email, about having visited this site. Oddly many have not left entries here for their shipmates to see. THEY do wonder how you are and probably would love to hear from you. This is a great way get back in contact.

REMEMBER….THE ONLY  WAY FOR YOUR SHIPMATES TO GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU IS HAVING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN YOUR MESSAGE

For YOUR protection – No home phone numbers or addresses please. Please save that for when you make email contact.

I am the daughter of Robert E. Jamison, who served on the FDR. He passed in 2000 after many years of heart trouble. I recently went through his old papers and discovered a menu from the Christmas dinner on board the FDR in 1949…very cool. He also kept a newspaper from the ship of the same year. I also have pictures of the ship and other things, it is really humbling going through all this stuff and the men who served her….

  2. Edward R. Fuller

Great job on the book. I noticed that I had been lost on the roster. I served on the ship and in OI Div. from September, 1966-69 when I turned 21. It is possible that my name was misspelled because I see a Edward Kuller as a SN in OI Div. on the 68 Med. cruise. I finished as a 3rd Class Radar man in late July, 1969. I know that this might not be important to anyone except me, but I would like it corrected if possible. Thank you!

Note: I have had friends that have seen my brother’s (Lawrence)name on the roster and not mine. That makes me feel awkward because I served longer on the ship than he did. email edfuller6@gmail.com

The rosie was my first ship right out of boot camp 1959 Mayport Florida. I was assigned number 2 engine room first class in charge was Kemp. I got to try out my first hurricane and then New York ship yards for repairs My first and last Med cruise before my transfer to PA. for the Kitty Hawk at Camden New Jersey I made most of the way around the world and loved it after I made NCO 2nd. 5. Ericka Charette nee Plourde

My dad Eric Plourde, served from 1963 -1967. He passed away on February 9, 2018 He told me many stories about his travels abroad while aboard the ship. He had many pictures which, I’m I’m possession of now. I have his entire file. He kept it all! Funny to read that my dad had a temper being that I knew a very gentle soul. Though, I could see why he’d get frustrated, he liked to be left to do his job with no interruption. He did well for himself but I was told that after he came back from the Navy after serving seaside of Vietnam (discharged in 1967), he was different. I’m just proud to say, my Dad was a veteran, serving our country honorably. He enlisted with honor and was discharged with honor. Bless all that served on Rosie.

  6. Frank Neal Beard

Made the last cruise of the Rosie and enjoyed my entire time on-board. She always made it interesting. 🙂 Was on the de-commissioning crew and remember the sad days when she was quiet, like all the life was gone out of her. Would love to hear from some of the old crew. bearemcs@aol.com Have seen some familiar names here.

  7. My name is Jeff Eddy. My Dad was on the ship from 1951-1954. He does not do email. If anyone remembers him and wants to get in touch please email me. I can start the contact. jeffeddy29@yahoo.com

  8. On behalf of John Thomas "Jack" Shipley

My father John Thomas “Jack” Shipley Jr. proudly served on Rosies initlal cruise and for two years after, entering WWII service at the age of 17 in April of 1945. He was an engineer and at age 89 is still quite fond of talking about his life aboard the great ship. I sincerely appreciate the effort in putting this site together and keeping this great history alive.
