HAVE YOU CHECKED THE HOME PAGE FOR THE LATEST INFO?

I have managed to resurrect some of the Guest Books from the previous FDR Websites. There are some that are lost forever but this is the best there is at the moment. There is a lot of good stuff there.

Click on the year you want to view. Click on the left arrow at the top of your browser to return to this page.

SO

Please put your email address in your message so your shipmates can get back to you (if they can remember you).

There is software on board that makes it unreadable to the “bots” who collect that sort of stuff.

All entries must be approved before they will appear in the book. Any inappropriate entries, as well as those with invalid email addresses, will be deleted and will not appear. I check daily so don’t despair if your entry doesn’t appear immediately.

Due to a rash of automated spam messages we now use “captcha” authentication.  Just enter the “captcha” code and then SUBMIT. Don’t worry about upper or lower case….either will work. If you have trouble reading it just click the little button to the right and it will “refresh”. Thanks!

Many shipmates have told me, via email, about having visited this site. Oddly many have not left entries here for their shipmates to see. THEY do wonder how you are and probably would love to hear from you. This is a great way get back in contact.

REMEMBER….THE ONLY  WAY FOR YOUR SHIPMATES TO GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU IS HAVING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN YOUR MESSAGE

For YOUR protection – No home phone numbers or addresses please. Please save that for when you make email contact.

REMEMBER….IF YOU WANT TO BE CONTACTED MAKE SURE YOU PUT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN THE BODY OF YOUR MESSAGE

  1. Bob Schultz, ADJ3, Rescue Aircrew, HC-2 Det 42, MED Cruise 1970; hello to all the FDR Veterans, hope everyone had a nice Christmas and have a Happy New Year.

  2. Served on the Roosevelt in 1971 for a Med cruise. Was in VA-87and finished my career as a communications yoeman.

  3. Jack R. Bowman QM3

Served from 8/66 to 3/68. Highlined over from an Oiler out of Subic Bay. I appreciate and value my experiences more now than when I was on board. Young and dumb.

  4. Willard Berryman

My father, Willard, served on the USS FDR 1951.(He was 23 then!) Was looking through his papers and saw this certificate from the “Mystic Order of the Flying Carpet” and started reading of the places he served…Sure wish I would have talked to him in more detail about his service life–never realized all he did and the places he went..The Navy held a very special place in his heart. He died 2010…..

  5. Served in VA-176, Thunderbolts, from late 1970 – March, 1974. Would love to hear from any others from VA-176 during the same time period.

  6. Bob Harnisch (Fred)

    VA 87 Ordnanceman 2nd class, 1971, 1972, and 5 months of 1973 Mediterranean Cruises on the Franklin D Roosevelt….

  7. OS2 James C Taylor

Grew up aboard Rosie, thought I was already grown up when I got there but the last cruise and the final journey to Portsmouth taught me so much that when I arrived at my next duty station I had gained enough respect from my previous duty that I became responsible for training new crew members and refresher training for existing CIC personnel. Look back on my year and a half with great pride.

  8. I was on the Rosie from 1975 through the decommissioning
    IC2 E Division
    any snipes left around?

  9. Aug 70 to Sept 71…Left for Yeoman A school and then served on the Forrestal.

Worked in the Admin office for a short time, messed cooked, and then the engineering log room.

Enjoyed the 71 cruise, messed cooked for the first half of the cruise, but really had a good time working in the deep sink/dish washing area. Did not matter how bad the job they gave me, I made the best of it. Kept my sanity reading the bible.

  10. Hi Terry S,

We really do not know each but I served on the Rosie from 71-72 making 2 Med cruises. I was wondering how big (# of men) was the US Marine detachment?

    Thx
